Reclaiming Clay – Turning Scrap into Art

Reclaiming Clay

Clay is pretty great in that you can use every tiny little offcut or scrap.

If it dries out you just wet it again.

As I work I put all the my scraps in a sealed container that I spray a little water into. And then I combine those scraps as I work and reuse them.

I haven’t reclaimed any clay for about two years since I started using all my scraps.

Reclaiming is a bit of a pain and I’m lazy.

We do get a lot of failures in ceramics so throwing away work is a part of it. Once it’s fired you can’t reclaim it. Lots of potters have a shard pile or hole in their yard they throw broken work into. Supporting future archaeological digs
